Headed to Aspen/Snowmass? Plan Ahead
Kristina Niemi, December 2016
Planning ahead is always a good idea, but it can turn a trip to Aspen Snowmass during the holidays and in-season from merely credible to incredible.
I speak from experience. I have found myself starving at 7 p.m. looking for a place in Aspen or Snowmass that doesn’t have an hour wait or isn’t booked with reservations. I’ve been excited to see a show at Belly Up only to have my hopes dashed because it sold out. Whoa, the Snow Polo Championships are in town! They, too, are sold out.
Needless to say, I’ve learned to plan ahead for my trips.
Since starting this website has “forced” me to stay up on what’s happening in the Valley. A ton of cool things are coming to the area: The Beach Boys, Kevin Smith, Audi FIS Ski World Cup Finals, and Chris Cornell to name a few. But do your research before you get into the area! Those events are or will be sold out once you get here.
Shows and concerts aren’t the only places to fill. Before heading to a restaurant in Chicago, we use OpenTable.com to make reservations. Here, many restaurants are not on the OpenTable platform—but not for long. Many Aspen, Snowmass, Basalt and Carbondale restaurants are starting to collaborate with OpenTable network so visitors can seamlessly reserve tables at all the popular restaurants. Town in Carbondale, The Wild Fig in Aspen, and Tempranillo in Basalt are on the OpenTable platform already, so you can book ahead—or you can book right from this site as well.
The reason I started AroundAspen was to provide the most up-to-date info, so check out my event calendar http://www.aroundaspen.com/event-calendar.html to see what is happening during your stay. You can also visit the Dining Section to make reservations with the Valley’s best restaurants http://www.aroundaspen.com/the-wild-fig.html.
The Roaring Fork Valley is amazing. Visitors always have plenty to do, but for some of the limited events and happenings, plan ahead.
