Downhill Skiing

There are four mountains in the Aspen Snowmass experience Aspen, Snowmass,
Aspen Highlands, and Buttermilk.   Each mountain has its own personality and characteristics which I have outlined below.  Also, just down valley in Glenwood Springs, there is Sunlight Mountain Resort.
Aspen Mountain
Located in the beautiful town of Aspen, Colorado; Aspen Mountain has an elevation of 11,212 ft with a terrain of 675 acres.   There are 76 ski trails,  however it is a mountain for more experienced skiers as there is no “easy” terrain.

Snowmass Mountain
Located in Snowmass Village, Colorado; Snowmass mountain has a run for everyone.  From easy greens for beginners to “The Wall” for more expert skiers - everyone is bound to have a great time.  Snowmass elevation is 12,510 ft at The Cirque headwall.  It is large with 3,332 acres of terrain and 94 trails of which 5% are “green/easy” trails.

Aspen Highlands
Sometimes known as the “locals favorite,” Aspen Highlands is located just on the other side of Aspen Mountain.  It has an elevation of 12,392 with 1,040 acres of terrain and 122 trails.

Buttermilk
The ideal mountain for new skiers/snowboarders and for those who like terrain challenges.  Used by ESPN for the Winter XGames, you most likely have seen Buttermilk in action.   The elevation is 9,900 ft with 470 acres of terrain and terrain parks including S3 Park, Buttermilk Main Park, X Park,  Teaser Park, Chucks Park,  Jacobs Ladder, and Midway Avenue Park.

To ensure a good time for everyone, I highly encourage you to review the ​Aspen Skiing Company Mountain Regulations from the link below.  Each mountain also has its own uphilling policy so if you are planning on taking a walk up the mountain,  I would review the uphill policies provided by Aspen Skiing Company.
Glenwood Springs, Sunlight Mountain Resort
Besides the 4 mountains in Aspen/Snowmass area, just down valley in Glenwood Springs features Sunlight Mountain.   It has 680 acres of terrain, and is also home to one of the longest trails in ski country, Ute, a beginner slope that winds more than 2 miles from summit to base. Sunlight also hosts some of the best tree skiing in Colorado with many aspen groves untracked days after snowfall. 
Backcountry Skiing
Since 1977, Aspen Expeditions' ski guides have been leading skiers into the winter backcountry of the Elk Mountains, near Aspen, CO.  AMGA trained/certified ski guides specialize in delivering sound and memorable mountain experiences with a low guide ratio of no more than 3:1
