Summer, my favorite season! Yes it is coming to a close and I can’t believe it’s coming up on Labor Day! JAS Aspen Snowmass has been a staple for years! Hopefully you are getting out to enjoy it, but if not-read below for other adventures this weekend!
If you are not familiar with this site, each week I take a look at events and happenings in The Valley and choose three things that look adventurous from Aspen down to Glenwood Springs. Here are my picks of the week:
Carbondale: A Way Out Presents: "Generation Found" @ The Orchard Gathering Place | August 30, 2017 @ 5:30 PM - 9 PM
Head over to the Orchard Gathering Place to view a one-time screening of "Generation Found." Independently filmed over the course of two years, "Generation Found" takes an unprecedented and intimate look at how a system of treatment centers, sober high schools, alternative peer groups, and collegiate recovery programs can exist in concert to intervene early and provide a real and tested long-term alternative to the "War on Drugs." It is not only a deeply personal story, but one with real-world utility for communities struggling with addiction worldwide.
IMDb has this rated 9.2/10
Cost: FREE
Location: The Orchard Gathering Place, 110 Snowmass Drive, Carbondale, CO 81623

Aspen: Cooking School of Aspen | August 31, 2017 @ 5 PM
The Aspen Cooking school is in a new 3,000 square foot space with a demo kitchen - right in downtown Aspen. They provide cooking classes, demo classes, tasting classes, and offer a great venue for private events.
This Friday, August 31 they are offering a delicious wine tasting from 5-6:15 pm to not only introduce you to new delicious wines, but “train” you on wine pairing - what works with what foods and why.
Cost: $45.00
Must be 21 or older.
Specifics: The class will pair 4-5 wines with 4-5 tastes of food and talk about what works, what doesn’t work, and why. The night includes 4+ wine samples and light food. Register here.
They also have one of my favorites on Monday, September 4 - Indian Cuisine! It will feature meatless Monday ideas and more so check it out! Time is 4-5:30, I’ll post more later, but register here!
Menu
Chole (chickpea curry)
Aaloo Paratha (potato Flatbread)
Raw Mango Salad
Donuts with Saffron Honey
Basalt: Heather’s Savory Pies & Tapas Bar with Smokin Joe | August 31, 2017 @ 7 - 10 PM
Head on over to Heather’s to kick off the music weekend in the Valley and eat some good food and hear Smokin’ Joe Kelly. Honestly, I never knew about his amazing background - very impressive! Joe was lead guitar for “Ike and Tina Turner” from 1974-1976. Recording and performance credits include Bill Withers (greatest hits album), Chaka Khan (looove), Vickie Sue Robinson, Lauren Wood, Jesse Martin (“Law and Order”, “Rent”), Cheryl Ladd, Vince Gill and Amy Grant to name a few.
Smokin’ Joe has performed all over the world from the “Superdome” in New Orleans, to “Carnegie hall” in New York City - and you can see him over at Heather’s. He plays in the valley frequently - go check him out!
