Summer, is winding down, but it's still my favorite season and there is still plenty to do! If you are not familiar with this site, each week I take a look at events and happenings in The Valley and choose three things that look adventurous from Aspen down to Glenwood Springs. Here are my picks of the week: Snowmass: Zoppe Family Circus, Aspen: Historical Pub Crawl, and Fiore’ Salon in Carbondale for Painting and Drinking i.e. Let’s Paint!
Snowmass: Zoppe Family Circus @ Base Village | August 18-20
The Zoppè Family Circus welcomes guests into the intimate 500 seat tent for a one-ring circus that honors the best history of the Old-World Italian tradition. Starring Nino the clown, the circus is propelled by a central story (as opposed to individual acts) that feature acrobatic feats, equestrian showmanship, canine capers, clowning, and plenty of audience participation. Giovanni Zoppè, the sixth-generation circus performer who plays Nino, says the show aims higher than what passes for circuses these days. "We try to touch every emotion during the show," he says. "They'll laugh, they'll cry, and they'll feel for the characters. It's more of an event than a show."
Head on over to Base Village and experience the tradition and history of Zoppé - An Italian Family Circus!
Showtimes:
Friday, August 18 @ 4 PM & 7 PM
Saturday, August 19 @ 1 PM, 4 PM & 7 PM

So besides it being my birthday and I will be at the Cubs game drinking Old Style, you can head on over to Fiore' Salon in Carbondale and Paint - and drink!
Here is what I can gather about this event - It’s held every 3rd Friday at Fiore’ Salon in Carbondale. It’s BYOB - they provide some snacks. Cost is $40/person and they provide all the materials needed to paint your next Picasso. Registration is required - call the salon to get more info and register: (970) 963-4673.
Aspen: Historic Pub Crawl @ Aspen Pubs | August 17, 2017 @ 3:30 PM
Take a guided tour of Aspen’s historic haunts where you’ll learn about the establishment’s history and hear local lore. Tour meets at the Red Onion Bar, continues to Justice Snow’s, the Aspen Brewing Company and then the J-Bar.
Some tidbits you’ll learn (from the Red Onion’s website):
The historic Red Onion is an Aspen landmark that holds the lofty distinction of being one of the oldest restaurant saloons, dating back to the silver boom of the 19th century. The Red Onion is one of the most picturesque of the various colorful Victorian establishments in Aspen.
Built in 1892 at the height of the silver boom by Tom Latta (note the name inlaid in the ‘foyer’ tile entry as well as on the front of the building) it was christened the “New Brick Saloon” at the festive opening night ceremonies. However, local old-timers had their own favorite names for this colorful saloon. They nicknamed it the ‘Red Onion’. This meant something out of the ordinary or unusual; something the likes of which could not be found elsewhere on earth.
I could do more research for you and put in this email, but no drinks included - where’s the fun in that?
