What, Where, When - 3 Things To Do Around Aspen this week:  July 17-23, 2017

7/16/2017

Summer, my favorite season!   If you are not familiar with this site,  each week I take a look at events and happenings in The Valley and choose three things that look adventurous from Aspen down to Glenwood Springs.  Here are my picks of the week:  Free Concert at Willits Town Center/Triangle Park,  Bluegrass Sunday @ Sundeck Aspen, and get out and try some amazing fly fishing.

Basalt: Wild Mountain @ Willits Town Center  | Wednesday, July 19, 2017 | 6:00 PM
Basalt Summer Concert Series is hopping!  Head on over to Willits Town Center/Triangle Park and listen to bluegrass band, Wild Mountain.  The concern is FREE so just bring your blanky and picnic basket and hang out and hear some tunes.    Starting in August, this changes to Basalt Lions Park!

Wild Mountain is a six-piece folk rock band out of Colorado, mixing Celtic-Irish melodies and rhythms with American heartland Bluegrass music.  They are currently touring throughout the United States performing their special blend of “Greengrass” music at festivals, theaters, venues, private parties, and town concert series. The band’s dynamic live “Greengrass” performances appeal to the Celtic heart and Bluegrass soul of both young and old alike.

Aspen: Bluegrass Sundays @ Sundeck |  NOON - 3 PM
Sunday, July 23 will feature the Rattlesnakes.    Take the gondola up and enjoy the views, great music and good people watching!   Guaranteed to have a great time! Plenty of seating, hoola hoops, and food.

Fly Fishing
If you have not gone out and tried fly fishing in this valley - it is a MUST!   The quietness of it is amazing and since you are among the best rivers in the country, it will be an amazing experience.   There are shops all over the valley from Aspen - Glenwood,  but I highly recommend Crystal Fly Shop 1087 Highway 133 in Carbondale.  They have waders, license, shoes- everything there, so just bring yourself and your wallet.   Choose from plenty of guided trips and experience all of the local gems with your private angler.  From what I can gather, they have a partnership with the Crystal River Conservancy and have access to some great spots that otherwise is deemed as off limits.  Besides wading, they also offer float trips - you pick what’s right for you!

Summer, my favorite season!   If you are not familiar with this site,  each week I take a look at events and happenings in The Valley and choose three things that look adventurous from Aspen down to Glenwood Springs.  Here are my picks of the week:  Dave Chappelle Show, Snowmass Free Concert Series, and my second favorite dog, Snoopy, is featured in a musical at Theatre Aspen.

There are still tickets for sale for the early show @ 6:00 pm!

Dave Chappelle is a comedian whose Comedy Central show, Chappelle's Show, became a smash hit in the early 2000s.

Dave Chappelle began making appearances in films such as Robin Hood: Men In Tights and Half Baked in the mid-1990s. In 2003, Chappelle landed his own show on Comedy Central, Chappelle's Show. He received two Emmy Award nominations for the wildly popular and controversial show, which frequently addressed race relations. In 2006, he abruptly quit the show and moved to a farm in Ohio.

Dave Chappelle decided to forgo college to start a stand-up career in New York City. By the early 1990s, he had begun earning accolades for his work in comedy. He made his film debut in Robin Hood: Men in Tights (1993) and became the youngest comedian to be featured on the HBO special Comic Relief VI (1994). 1

I wanted to ensure that other visitors to the valley could have one resource that has it all – dining, announcements, seasonal activities, cultural, entertainment, and more.  So I founded Around Aspen to help everyone find a great time in the Valley.
