Ok, so now that everything is winding down and closed until May/June, there are still things going on in the valley to enjoy!   Each week, I take a look at events and happenings in The Valley and choose three things that look adventurous from Aspen down to Glenwood Springs.  Here are my picks of the week:

BASALT: TAC Fitness ClassEveryday | All Times
Now that the mountains are closed, it’s time to continue your fitness momentum!   The Aspen Clinic in Basalt offers daily fitness classes for all levels!    Drop in for $15.00 or buy a 10-visit punch pass.   Besides fitness classes, The Aspen Clinic offers insightful workshops, health screening, and fitness evaluations.    Visit them at http://www.theaspenclinic.org/ to learn more-and get your off season in season!

Aspen/Virtual: Morningstar Investments Live Webinar
Thursday, April 27, 2017 @ 2:00 pm MDT
Click here to attend
Access Code: 835 661 9570

It's Money Smart Week: Treat Yourself to Morningstar!  My former employer, Morningstar, is hosting a free webinar to all folks that have a Pitkin County library card.  Learn more about investing from a luminary in the industry and see how you can become smarter with your finances.

Aspen: Whitewater Ramble @ Belly Up Aspen
Saturday, April 29 @ 10:00 pm
All ages 18+ show for only $5.00 - who can beat that price for a fun night of dancing.  Described on their website as “High-Octane Rocky Mountain DanceGrass,” Whitewater Ramble (WWR) uses a simple recipe to craft its sound: start with bluegrass instrumentation, add drums, and finish with a boundary less approach to “grassing-up” everything from disco house grooves to roots to Americana. The Colorado-bred quintet combines the elements of mandolin, fiddle, acoustic guitar, upright bass, drums and vocals to explore the musical boundaries of multiple genres and to fuel their own mixture of original music and innovative cover song interpretations.

What a great 2017 season!  Although I could not make it on the mountain this year, I was able to enjoy it from the sidelines.  Now that the season is over, it will be all quiet until the summer events start up in June!

Each week, I take a look at events and happenings in The Valley and choose three things that look adventurous from Aspen down to Glenwood Springs.  Here are my picks of the week:   Surf and Snow Beach Party in Snowmass, the Annual Carbondale Easter Egg Hunt, and bonus week of skiing in Aspen.

Snowmass:
ELK CAMP SURF & SNOW BEACH PARTY

Saturday, April 15 @ 11:30 am – 3:30 pm

Head up to Elk Camp for some fun in the sun! The party begins at 11:30 am with DJ Naka G who will be providing jammin tunes for the day.  Free leis will be given to those brave souls in swim attire (Whit), volleyball, drink specials, taco bar, margarita bike blenders, and plenty of raffles and giveaways. Wear your swim attire for a chance at a North American Record attempt for largest swimsuit ski parade at 3:30 pm. Join fellow skier/riders from Elk Camp to Base Village at where the party continues!

Don’t ski? You can purchase a sightseeing ticket and still join the party!

Carbondale:
Annual Easter Egg Hunt @ Sopris Park
Saturday, April 15 @ 10:00 am sharp

Join Carbondale Recreation for its Annual Easter Egg Hunt at Sopris Park.  They need help finding the 6,000 eggs hidden in the park!  The Hunt will begin at 10 am promptly.  I would encourage you to arrive early lease because the hunt only lasts a few minutes.  Be sure to bring your own basket to collect the eggs!  Participants will be divided up according to age.  Registration for the Easter Basket Raffle will begin at 9:30am, and winners will be drawn following.  This event is FREE.

Aspen:
Bonus Week of Skiing
@Aspen Mountain
Through April, 23, 2017
Aspen Mountain just extended the skiing until April, 23, 2017!  So this is your last chance to get out on the mountain until next season (unless they do a surprise summer ski day)!   Per Skico, lifts will run from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm daily starting April 17, with the opportunity for even earlier openings on powder days. The Sundeck will be open for grilling, après and live music.Here are the details!
Lift tickets are $69 a day for adults and $45 for children, teens and seniors. Pass extension days for Flex, Adult Classic and Adult Mountain Collective passholders will be $32. Child, Youth and College Classic passholders as well as Child, Teen and Senior Mountain Collective passholders can purchase pass extensions for $23. Sightseeing lift tickets, which include a $10 lunch credit, decrease to $26 for adults and $19 for Child, Teen and Seniors. What, Where, When - 3 Things To Do Around Aspen this week:  April 7 - April 14, 2017

By Kristina Niemi

Apologies for the delay here.  After two month of hiatus due to a shattered wrist, I am somewhat able to type again!  Just in time for the end of the season.  And although winter 2017 is coming to a close, my FAVORITE part of the Valley is summer!   So stay tuned for all the summer events and happenings.

Each week, I take a look at events and happenings in The Valley and choose three things that look adventurous from Aspen down to Glenwood Springs.  Here are my picks of the week:  Bud Light HiFi Free Concert, Schneetag at Highlands, Aspen Film’s 26th Shortsfest – Program 11 FILMS FOR FAMILIES

The BudLight HiFi Free Concert Featuring The Main Squeeze
@Snowmass Base Village
Saturday, April 8. 2017 @ 3 PM
Picture Stevie Wonder fronting a combination of Led Zeppelin and Daft Punk.
The Main Squeeze, with deep musical roots sprouted in the Midwest, have scored their lives at each twist and curve. While starting out as a party band at Indiana University, their forthcoming April 28 release “Without a Sound” illustrates their increasing musical maturity and creativity inspired by their new home in Los Angeles.

If maturity comes with experience, “Without a Sound” reflects this. The Main Squeeze has spent several years building their foundation since being championed by producer Randy Jackson: they have played Red Rocks; shared the stage with The Roots, Aloe Blacc, Janes Addiction, Umphrey’s McGee, and Trombone Shorty; and performed at music festivals like Bonnaroo, Electric Forest, Summer Camp, and High Sierra.

The Main Squeeze is a blend of soul and hip-hop, funk with rock. They know their sound is “soulful, powerful, and unique” (Newman). Rolling Stone agrees in their recent critique of a live show: “Lead singer Corey Frye’s powerfully soulful vocals forms the foundation of an energetic set.”

Schneetag
@Aspen Highlands Merry Go Round
Sunday, April 9, 2017
April 9, 2017
Schneetag is the German word for "snow day." Put simply, it translates as "daredevils willing to propel themselves down a hill, over a jump and across a pond on a craft they built themselves." This hilarious event is one not to miss. The 9th annual Schneetag event (pronounced Sch-knee Tog) invites teams of four to create a craft that they will pilot down a slope and attempt to float across a 20x40 foot pond. Every team has a theme and will perform a skit before they descend. This event is just as ridiculous and entertaining as it sounds.

    I wanted to ensure that other visitors to the valley could have one resource that has it all – dining, announcements, seasonal activities, cultural, entertainment, and more.  So I founded Around Aspen to help everyone find a great time in the Valley.
